A man impersonating WWE Superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin setup shop at a Wal-Mart in Greensburg, Indiana over the weekend and signed autographs for fans, taking their money and running with it. By the time officials from Wal-Mart and the Police got wind of the scheme, the man had already split. They caught up with his manager at the Wal-Mart who said the guy was an Austin look-a-like and that they had the real Stone Cold's permission. The man was charging $10 for autographs.
WWE is working with the Greensburg Police to try and find the man and press charges. WWE holds the rights to the Stone Cold name and are taking this very seriously as they are helping with the investigation. Police are trying to charge the man with fraud and identity theft and have a Kentucky address for the man who was impersonating Austin.
The chief of Police said the whole thing had red flags, including the car the fake Austin pulled up in and the fact that he had no security with him and requested no security to be present. Officials from the Greensburg Parks department were even promoting the appearance on a local radio station last week.
